Choosing the right crusher model is the key to improving crushing efficiency, reducing operating costs and ensuring the quality of finished products. The core principle is: first determine the material properties and production capacity, then match the model according to coarse/middle/fine crushing or sand making needs, and finally verify the parameters and budget. This guide will take you through the entire selection process and practical solutions, helping you make the most suitable choice easily.

I. Clarify 4 Core Conditions First (Starting Point of Selection)

1. Material Characteristics (Most Critical)

  • Hardness (Mohs/Compressive Strength)
    • Soft/Medium Hard (Limestone, Coal, Gypsum, ≤150MPa): Prioritize impact crushers, hammer crushers, and double-roll crushers.

    • High Hard (Granite, Basalt, Quartz, Iron Ore, 150–320MPa): Prioritize jaw crushers and cone crushers.

  • Humidity/Mud Content
    • Wet/Sticky Materials: Choose impact crushers (with heating function) or double-tooth roll crushers; avoid hammer crushers (prone to clogging).

    • High Mud Content: Add ore washing/pre-screening before crushing.

  • Abrasion Resistance: For highly abrasive materials (Quartz, Silica), must choose wear-resistant cone crushers or jaw crushers.

2. Production Capacity and Crushing Ratio

  • Hourly Output (t/h)
    • Small Capacity (<100t/h): PE Jaw Crushers, Hammer Crushers, Double-Roll Crushers.

    • Medium Capacity (100–500t/h): Impact Crushers, Single-Cylinder/Multi-Cylinder Cone Crushers.

    • Large Capacity (>500t/h): Gyratory Crushers, Large-Scale Cone Crushers, Multi-Machine Linkage.

  • Crushing Ratio (Ratio of Feed Particle Size to Discharge Particle Size)
    • Coarse Crushing: Crushing Ratio 4–8; Middle/Fine Crushing: 8–15; Sand Making: 15–30.

    • Backward deduction according to target particle size: The smaller the finished product, the more crushing stages are needed.

3. Feed/Discharge Particle Size

  • Feed Particle Size
    • Large Blocks (>1000mm): Jaw Crushers, Gyratory Crushers.

    • Medium Blocks (300–1000mm): Impact Crushers, Cone Crushers.

  • Discharge Particle Size (Finished Product)
    • Coarse Crushing (>50mm): Jaw Crushers, Gyratory Crushers.

    • Middle/Fine Crushing (5–50mm): Cone Crushers, Impact Crushers.

    • Sand Making (<5mm): Vertical Shaft Impact Crushers (Sand Makers).

4. Site and Budget

  • Fixed Site, Long-Term Production: Fixed Crushing Production Line (cost-effective).

  • Frequent Transfer, Construction Waste/Municipal Engineering: Mobile Crushing Stations (ready to use anywhere).

  • Limited Budget: Prioritize Jaw Crusher + Impact Crusher combination; For high-hard materials/long-term use: Jaw Crusher + Cone Crusher.

II. Match Models According to Crushing Stages (Mainstream Solutions)

1. Coarse Crushing (Primary Crushing)

  • Jaw Crusher (PE/PEX Series)
    • Application: All materials, especially high-hard and large blocks; the first choice for small and medium capacity.

    • Typical Models: PE600×900 (Hourly Output 80–150t), PE750×1060 (110–250t).

  • Gyratory Crusher
    • Application: Ultra-large capacity (>800t/h), large-scale mines.

2. Middle/Fine Crushing (Secondary/Tertiary Crushing)

  • Cone Crusher (Single-Cylinder/Multi-Cylinder/SC Series)
    • Application: High-hard materials (Granite, Basalt, Iron Ore); Laminated crushing, good particle shape, wear-resistant.

    • Typical Models: SC160 (Middle Crushing, Hourly Output 120–350t), SC250 (Fine Crushing, 80–240t).

  • Impact Crusher (PF Series)
    • Application: Medium and low-hard materials (Limestone); Excellent particle shape, low investment; not suitable for high-hard materials.

3. Sand Making (High-Quality Sand)

  • Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher (Sand Maker)
    • Application: 0–5mm Artificial Sand; Use rock-on-rock for hard rocks and rock-on-iron for soft rocks.

III. Common Material Production Line Configurations (Direct Reference)

1. High-Hard Materials (Granite/Basalt/Iron Ore)

  • Solution:Jaw Crusher (Coarse Crushing) + Cone Crusher (Middle Crushing) + Sand Maker (Shaping).

  • Example (Hourly Output 150–200t): PE750×1060 → SC160 → VSI9526.

2. Medium and Low-Hard Materials (Limestone/Construction Waste)

  • Solution: Jaw Crusher (Coarse Crushing) + Impact Crusher (Middle/Fine Crushing).

  • Example (Hourly Output 100–150t): PE600×900 → PF1315.

3. Mobile Operation (Construction Waste/Municipal Engineering)

  • Solution: Mobile Jaw Crushing Station + Mobile Impact Crushing Station (no infrastructure required, quick commissioning).

IV. Model Verification and Parameter Check (Must-Do)

  1. Feed Opening ≥ Maximum Feed Particle Size (leave 10% margin).

  2. Processing Capacity ≥ Designed Capacity × 1.2 (reserve for fluctuations).

  3. Adjustable Discharge Opening Range Covers Target Particle Size.

  4. Motor Power Matching and Voltage Adaptation.

  5. Wear-Resistant Parts Material (use high manganese steel or high chromium cast iron for high-hard materials).

V. Selection Steps (Quick Implementation)

  1. Test Materials: Hardness, humidity, maximum feed particle size.

  2. Determine Production Capacity: Hourly output (t/h), finished product particle size.

  3. Select Stages: Coarse/middle/fine crushing or sand making, and determine the model combination.

  4. Check Model: Verify feed, production capacity, and discharge parameters.

  5. Calculate Budget: Equipment + Infrastructure + Wear Parts + Operation and Maintenance.

Whether you are engaged in mining, construction waste disposal, or sand and gravel production, choosing the right crusher model can greatly improve your operational efficiency and reduce costs. If you provide yourmaterial type, hourly output, and feed/discharge particle size, we can customize a specific crusher model and production line configuration plan for you, helping you achieve efficient and stable production.
